Chia 2.7.4: security fixes, PlotNFT v2 and hard fork groundwork

Chia Network released version 2.7.4 on 10 September 2026. It includes important security updates, and Chia asks users to install it as soon as they can.

Security first

The main goal of 2.7.4 is to make the software stronger against AI-assisted attacks. The release hardens the mempool, full node, wallet and DataLayer. As with earlier releases this year, Chia plans to publish full post-mortems once enough of the network has upgraded.

Getting ready for the hard fork

2.7.4 already contains several building blocks of the coming Chia 3.0 hard fork:

  • the new plot ID filter, a new harvester protocol and metadata for the new (V2) plots;
  • a new cost format;
  • support for the new PlotNFT format, with wallet and farmer support for the new pooling protocol, plus updated command-line and RPC tools.

According to Chia, these changes only switch on with the hard fork, several months after Chia 3.0 is released. The final activation block height will be set in the 3.0 release.

In the GUI

  • Three colour themes: CHIA (the default, matching the Cloud Wallet), CLASSIC (the original green) and AUTUMN.
  • Smoother video and audio playback for NFTs, better handling of NFTs stored on IPFS, and a choice of IPFS gateway.
  • Up to 20 NFTs in one offer instead of 10.

Python 3.10 is now deprecated for people who run Chia from source.

Earlier this summer

Version 2.7.2 (9 July) added the first PlotNFT v2 drivers, a new weight proof format and Python 3.14 support, and fixed blockchain sync on slow connections such as Starlink in Standby mode. Version 2.7.3 (16 July) fixed confirmation dialogs on Linux and Plot NFTs showing up under the wrong key.

What it means for XCHPool farmers

Install 2.7.4 on the machines that run Chia. The new PlotNFT format and pooling protocol are not active until the hard fork, so there is nothing to change in your pool setup at https://pool.xchpool.org today. Downloads are on chia.net/downloads.
